DiscussionDiscuss which representations of Crockett have been most widely portrayed in popular culture. How historically accurate are these representations? Email the Experts After this lesson, ask students to submit questions that they would like to ask the experts. Their questions might be about a specific event, legend, or artifact. Do the Artifact Study created by the education team at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. 2. Evaluate selected segments from Disney's 1955 motion picture Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier for historical accuracy. For help choosing clips, refer to William Chemerka's book, The Davy Crockett Almanac and Book of Lists, which lists Fess Parker's Top 10 Most Memorable Scenes from the movie. 3. Have students create a timeline of important events in U.S. history that occurred during the 1950s. In light of these events, ask students to interpret why Davy Crockett might have become such a popular figure during this decade of the 20th century. 4. Ask students to explain, in an essay or oral presentation, why Davy Crockett became an American hero, and why he has remained a popular figure over time.
