Davy Crockett is a distinctly American hero. His legend has come to symbolize many aspects of the nation's history and evolving character. It is only fitting that the legendary Davy Crockett should have such a defining power, for the historical David Crockett emerged as a living symbol of new political and social forces in his own lifetime. Pioneer, soldier, hunter and politician, he became the embodiment of his era and helped to define what it meant to be an American.
