Khmer King Yasovaman I moves his capital to Angkor.

Norseman Gunbjorn discovers Greenland while sailing from Norway to Iceland.

Slightly later, around 950, Córdoba in Muslim Spain becomes Europe's intellectual center.

c.1113-1150

Suryavarman II rules the Khmer Empire. Under his leadership, the temple complex of Angkor Wat is completed.

Earlier, in 1071, Venice's Saint Mark's Church is completed after ninety-five years of construction.

Also in Europe, the twelfth century brings the rise of Gothic architecture.

c.1181-1218

The town of Angkor Thom, including the Bayon, is executed under the reign of King Jayavarman VII.

In 1911, Zen Buddhism is introduced to Japan. In 1215, the Magna Carta is signed, limiting the power of the English Monarchy.
